View From The U

Director

VIew From The U (VFTU) is the documentary and video production branch of the University of Utah’s student media department. I joined initially as an intern, but quickly worked my way up to producer, and later was promoted to director.

Film Production Club

President

I joined the student-led U of U Film Production Club (FPC) as a freshman in 2021, and when a treasurer position opened up on their executive board I was quick to apply. Thanks to my double major in finance, I was appointed, and from there I learned the ropes and how to fund and run a narrative production set. I later became the Vice President then President of the club, running meetings, organizing film festivals, and acting as the Executive Producer on our annual grant-funded, student-led short film productions.

Utah Open Lands

Intern

I worked as a video content production and storytelling intern for the land conservation nonprofit, Utah Open Lands (UOL). My duties included filming and editing various volunteering events and capturing the various landscapes UOL worked to protect. Much of this content was filmed and edited to be used as needed for social media and website content and included both b-roll and interviews. Land conservation is an issue very close to my heart, so this was an incredible opportunity.

Leicester Productions

Fellow

In early 2024, I was taken on a student fellow with the Salt Lake City-based nonprofit, Leicester Productions. As a part of my fellowship, I was paid to direct, film, and edit a short documentary featuring a Utah-based story of my choosing, and with the assistance of a producer I created Silent Rock (see the “Documentary” page!). This was my first paid gig as a filmmaker, and I’m still grateful for the opportunity, and very proud of the end result!
